Heleen Hilgers worked as a maternity- and kraamzorg* nurse for 10 years before starting the first Lactation consultants practice in Amsterdam. At that time educational scientist Myrte van Lonkhuijsen was connected to the Vereniging Borstvoeding Natuurlijk (a Dutch organisation similar to LLL) and in training to be a lactationconsultant.
Together they started the Breastfeedingcentre Amsterdam.

In 2001 this team got reinforced with two other lactationconsultants, Denise van Mulkom and Nina van der Cingel.

Apart from being certified lactationconsultants we have different disciplines. Our backgrounds vary: nursing, educational sciences, cultural antropology and kraamzorg*

Our two indispensable assistants Evrim and Marjolijn work in the shop and the office.

All together we speak English, French, German, Spanish,Sranang, Hebrew and Turkish.
And we have 12 children.
