Sometimes breastfeeding is trickier than expected. Most problems can be solved though. Lactation consultants are specialised in assisting with breastfeeding when the standard advice appears to be ineffective. Parents are referred to us by midwifes, 'consultatiebureau' and doctors. It is also possible to make an appointment without a referral.
Reasons to make an appointment can be:

• Ineffective latch
• Pain
• Very frequent and/or long feedings
• Insufficient growth
• Fussing at the breast
• Mastitis
• Uncertainty about the baby's behaviour
  concerning feeding
• Premature baby's
• Preventive: when you intend to
  feed after breastsurgery, adoption or traumatic (breastfeeding) experiences

Although we have extensive knowlegde and experience concerning breastfeeding, we can not always guarantee success. We will look for the best possible options. The focus is on advice that is safe and practical for parents and children.
